The old building at the 29 Tsar Samoil Street - a monument of culture in the centre of the town of Bitola, has been restored and has become the headquarters of the Youth Cultural Centre. Young people from Bitola can visit the centre for alternative arts, cultural events, promotions, presentations. The following is operational within the Centre: an art gallery, a puppet theatre, a modern dance hall, a concert hall with a piano; and various courses are also organized there.

About Bitola
Bitola (at 660 metres above the sea level) is located in the very south of Macedonia, in the western part of the Pelagonija Valley, between the mountains of Baba and Nidze, very close to the country's border to the Republic of Greece. The town is the regional centre for the wider area of southwestern Macedonia.
How to reach Bitola?
Bitola is located at a distance of 178 kilometres from Skopje, and has excellent road connections. In case you want to use a bus, there are coaches at every hour, and trains run twice a day to this town. It also has excellent connections with other towns in Macedonia, like with Ohrid for instance, a town located at 74-kilometre distance from Bitola.
Where to stay overnight?
The town offers several accommodation possibilities. These include the hotels of “Molika”,” Bitola”, “Epinal”, “Fontana BE-NI”, and “De Niro”.
Local specifics
While in Bitola, visit the following monuments of culture: the grand church of St. Dimitrij (1830), the Bezisten (XVI-XIX century), the Saat Kula (“the clock tower”) (XVII century), the Old Bitola Bazaar (XIX century), the Deboj (XVII century), the Ajdar-Kadin Mosque (XVI century). Take a walk at the “Sirok Sokak”, the popular pedestrian area having old-city houses with renovated facades. You can here have a cup of coffee and, in the evenings, watch the traditional “corzo” (promenade). A specialty that you surely have to try in Bitola is the traditional “ckembe-corba”.
What can you see in the surroundings?
There are several picnic sites in the vicinity: the “Pelister” national park (highest peak 2601 metres), the Baba Mountain with its natural beauties including the famous pine tree called “molika” and the mountain lakes, with excellent ski terrains and mountain resorts. Next to Bitola is located the archeological site of Heraklea Linkestis (4th century B.C. - 6th century A.C.) that one simply has to visit. |
