Project description The project called “The Skilled Hands of Rusinovo” has the goal of providing impulse to local development through cherishing the tradition of old crafts in the Malesevo region. It has encouraged further making of wooden looms, and of knitted, woven and embroidered objects and the sale thereof. A catalogue has been developed as well as a price list for these items, and their makers have taken part in several exhibition and fun fairs. They have presented their skills on a special exhibition organized in Skopje.

About Rusinovo Rusinovo is located at a 5-kilometre distance from Berovo. It is located in the Malesevo Mountains, on the very east of Macedonia. It has about 2600 inhabitants mostly dealing with agriculture, cattle breeding, and making handicrafts (woolen covers, rugs, floor covers, “astarki” (linen) textile, “shlajferi”, “choja-sajak”, “brdnici” and other items) of local materials (cotton wool and cotton waste from textile factories in Berovo), using looms made in the village (horizontal loom and equipment, made of local wood).
How to reach Rusinovo? You can reach the Rusinovo village from Skopje by bus or by car (via Veles, Stip, Kocani, Vinica, Berovo), as well as from Strumica (about 70 kilometres away). Buses from Skopje to Berovo depart at 9.30, 13.20, 15.15, and 18.00 hours, and departing from Berovo to Skopje at 4.30, 7.30, 10.30, and 16.15 hours.
Where to stay overnight? Visitors may stay overnight in the Hunters’ House in Berovo, or at the “Mladost” resort in the vicinity of the Berovo Lake. Private accommodation is also offered in weekend houses by the Lake.
Local specifics In the village of Rusinovo you can see on the spot the traditional way of weaving, and you can here also buy local products. In addition to textile products made on loom, you certainly should ask for the famous food articles: the Malesevo cheese, the Malesevo potato, and the well-known Malesevo plum brandy. You can taste these specialties in the following restaurants: “Karadak”, “Mrs”, “Parizien”, “Solun”, the Hunting House, “Centar”, and in several others in Berovo and in its surroundings.
What can you see in the surroundings? You certainly should visit the “Mladost” Berovo Lake and the surrounding nature in the famous Malesevo region, then the Berovo monastery, the excursion spot “Ablanica” and the weekend-house settlement on the banks of the Berovo Lake. In the vicinity, visit the town of Berovo, one of the highest-located towns in Macedonia. On the road between Berovo and Rusinovo, an interesting art gallery is located, by the very road, offering hand-made ceramic artistic items.
